Roads stay deserted, shops remain closed in Muthur
The entire population of Muthur is displaced, except for few families, which have decided to stay put in their hometown. There were 50, 529 Muthur civilians registered as displaced. They left Muthur on August 4th 2006, after fighting began with the Government security forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Most of them walked to Kantale, while others used tractors, vans, and bullock carts.
They stay in schools and places of worship. They do not want to return to Muthur, because of fear. The welfare camps are over crowded. The internally displaced people are worried about health and privacy issues. It's very difficult to stay in the canvass and plastic tents, during warm weather.
